Ted Kooser was United States Poet Laureate from 2004 to 2006 and is the author of eleven poetry collections, including Delights & Shadows (Copper Canyon Press, 2004), which won the Pulitzer Prize for Poetry. As Poet Laureate he created the “American Life in Poetry,” a free weekly column for newspapers, featuring a poem by a contemporary American writer. “I wanted to show the people who read newspapers that poetry can be for them, can give them a chuckle or an insight.”
