The Barracks Thief

(Fiction; Ecco Press, 1984)

Tobias Wolff is beloved for his memoir, This Boy’s Life, for his short stories, and for his recent novel Old School (part of which was excerpted in Narrative, and which is available in our Library). In between writing his first published book, the collection of short stories In the Garden of the North American Martyrs (1981) and his third, the memoir This Boy’s Life (1989), Wolff published a novella, The Barracks Thief, for which he was awarded the Pen/Faulkner Prize.
