Where the River Bends
by Barry Raine
(Nonfiction; Ontario Review Press, 2002)
In the early fall of his sophomore year in college, Barry Raine set out with his brother Paul and two friends, Alex and Catherine, to pass an unusually warm Saturday night sitting in a New Orleans park, chatting and drinking wine and playing the guitar. There they were approached by a stranger with a gun, who assaulted them and then kept the men at bay while he twice raped Catherine. They were then forced to strip and told to march into the Mississippi and its dangerous undertows.
