Couples Traveling

by Debra Marquart

Sad but true; we become bothersome, laughable, pathetic as we slip further and further out of context. Of course, each of us must come to understand this in time. Good on you for maintaining that impatient tone throughout.

I didn't feel impatient about these traveling companions at all. Not one second. I felt sad.

Every travail they encountered so unnecessarily necessary and difficult. I wanted to rescue them, help them manage the simplest things.

My parents both died in my 20s, decades ago. I never got to help them manage anything as they aged. Because they never aged.

But line by line, I imagined helping this couple. Thank you.
