This is such a surprise! I took a writing class at the New School in 1971 from Prof. Offit. Who knew what a colorful background he had? I think I need to get this book.
It was a great but fleeting boost to my esteem when I received a phone call from Prof. Offit praising my writing. He was remarkably positive about my work, and he had me read a section aloud one evening. My immaturity blocked my pursuit of a writing career, and it is one of my life's great regrets. To be able to return to his class and to pursue a life as a writer would be high on my list, if God granted do-overs.
I remember reading this story in Professor Offit's class last year. It was my first foray into fiction writing, and I left that class a much better writer, inspired to write more.
From one of the boy's daughters -- this book is in my library. Good reminder to take it out and read it again!
My dad made most phone calls from phone booths, and when I asked him why, he said, " I'll do the interrogating little sweetheart."

I hope Offit is well. He was a terrific teacher.
