Elizabet Elliott won Second Place in Narrative’s Fifth Annual Poetry Contest. Born in Texas, she grew up in Alabama and received a BFA from Massey University in Wellington, New Zealand, and an MFA in interdisciplinary art from Goddard College in Port Townsend, Washington. She lives and works in Mobile, Alabama.

i was a wild thing
down by the river, quiet like wild things are.


i waded murk
a seeker of shed skins fervent in the catching of winged quiver
and brave.
