Wendy Xu is the author of the poetry collection You Are Not Dead. A 2104 Ruth Lilly and Dorothy Sargent Rosenberg Fellow, she earned an MFA in poetry from the Program for Poets and Writers at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Xu was born in Shandong, China, and lives in Brooklyn.

Winter Missive

What anyone intended a life to be
arriving at the dim shore and stacked
many deep, saying to loved ones I feel
unnatural, half a human face smothered
in deep light. How preciously next
our leaders beating the thin song out
