Poem of the Week

Christopher Citro is the author of The Maintenance of the Shimmy-Shammy and has work included in the anthology Best New Poets (2014). A 2018 Pushcart Prize winner for his poem “It’s Something People in Love Do,” he has also hosted the program The Poets Weave for the NPR station WFIU. He holds an MFA in poetry from Indiana University and lives in Syracuse, New York, where he teaches at the Downtown Writers Center.

A Lot Going On Up There

If anything, seeing the hawk hovering
in the glass-top patio table makes it
more majestic. The clouds a mattress
too far away to touch. I lean over,
the bird blotted out by my big fat head.
The doctor who caught me when first I fell
to earth remarked—Baby got a big brain.
