Richard II

You said I just seek tragedy
but the arboretum website
said November was a good time
for appreciating bark.

And I was trying.
I repeated: Vegetable.


We walked along the trellised vines
now mostly dry, wood weaving
through itself—so like the frames
they leaned on. Partners—
one composed, one clinging,
weighted with a shaggy mantle.
