Last Acre

by Lee Colin Thomas

Let’s not spend too much time on this
but if made to choose, would you
say the world bends to human ideas
about beauty? Or that we,
in fact, are made beautiful by
the world, its winds a shade of pink
we haven’t learned to see? I think about
smoke, how it finds a way inside
cheeses, honey, and trout. We pay extra
to consume meals so permeated. Now
I want to eat the sky, the trees, blisters
of darkness at a backyard party going late.
