Gerunds for You

by Taneum Bambrick

Trying not to doing wall sits in the poetry room.
Trying not to sucking spring honey off a cold spoon.
Trying not following the blue blazes on the pine trees. Trying
hoping the other deer are being sweet
to the one with diarrhea. Trying not to forgetting how to spell
diarrhea at age thirty-two. Trying not to for a mile, with my thumb
bruising a bright-red leaf. Watching a video of a skunk
sucking the stragglers off the bearding bees I am trying. Not to
exhausting the visual artists with my long personality.
