At Narrative Night, Seattle, in November 2008, García gave a virtuoso reading from her novel in progress, which takes place in El Paso, where a man wakes to find himself abandoned by his wife and then throughout a day struggles anxiously and finally comically to regain himself in his children’s eyes. The piece is rich in detail, and the ending is as tender as it is humorous.
