Brian Doyle

Brian Doyle (1957–2017), one of Oregon’s best-known writers, published several works of fiction and nonfiction, most notably the novels Mink River; The Plover; and Martin Marten, winner of the 2016 Oregon Book Award; as well as the essay collection Children and Other Wild Animals. Born in New York City, and educated at Notre Dame, he received the Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters. After receiving his cancer diagnosis, Doyle said, “Be tender to each other. Be more tender than you were yesterday, that’s what I would like.”
