Jayne Anne Phillips is the author of two short story collections, Fast Lanes and Black Tickets, and five novels, including Machine Dreams and Quiet Dell. Her novel Lark & Termite, an excerpt of which is available in our Archive, was the winner of the Heartland Prize. In addition, the American Academy and Institute of Arts and Letters awarded her the Sue Kaufman Prize and an Academy Award in Literature. Phillips is director of the MFA program at Rutgers–Newark in New Jersey.
