Li-Young Lee

Li-Young Lee, 2024 recipient of the Ruth Lilly Poetry Prize, is the author of Book of My Nights, which won the William Carlos Williams award. Born in Djakarta, Indonesia, in 1957 to Chinese political exiles, Lee and his family fled in 1964 to the United States. His memoir, The Winged Seed: A Remembrance, traces the family’s journey. Influenced by classical Chinese poets Li Bo and Tu Fu, Lee’s poetry is noted for its use of memories to launch investigations of the universal. Other work includes Behind My Eyes and The Undressing.
