Shangyang Fang, who grew up in Chengdu, China, is the author of the poetry collection Burying the Mountain and of Study of Sorrow (Copper Canyon Press, 2025), translations of twenty-nine Song Dynasty Ci poets. He earned an undergraduate degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois and is an assistant professor of English and creative writing at the University of Massachusetts, Boston.
