What a lovely interweaving of a family crisis and finding comfort in such a homey a slice of consumer culture as L. L. Bean. I especially appreciated the image of Jake flying off the top bunk and his quote about the jet-pack. It really encapsulates the logic of a child. And the love of this young mother is all the more palpable for being poignant and rueful--complex emotions charmingly voiced.
