My son’s name is Jesus. Not “Hay-zoos,” like the Spanish say it, but the full-in-the-face English version: “Jee-zus,” heavy on the z. My family and I live in Douglas, a village just outside Cork, in southernmost Ireland. Although Douglas has loosened its tie in recent years, it’s still conservative when it comes to naming, and a name like Jesus remains a head turner.
