Lynn Freed, recipient of the inaugural Katherine Anne Porter Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, as well as the PEN/O.Henry Prize, was born in Durban, South Africa. Her novels include Home Ground, The Bungalow, House of Women, and The Mirror. Her stories are collected in The Curse of the Appropriate Man, and her essays in Reading, Writing, and Leaving Home. Her newest novel is The Servants’ Quarters.
