There was this go-go place in Oakland in 1968 where Kelly took us when we first got off the ship. The usual drinking and hollering at the dancers, then this skinny blonde steps on the stage not in a go-go outfit but in a skimpy Balinese costume. She dances Balinese to whiney music. “Class,” says Deacon, and he rolls his eyes. When the real go-go’s come back we cheer like crazy.
